Education is the Leading Business for Pembroke.

Education is big business in the Pembroke area. Educational agencies such as The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the Public Schools of Robeson County are the largest employers in the Pembroke area. The Pembroke Chamber is an active supporter of the University and the local school system.

Each year at its annual banquet, the Pembroke Chamber presents the “Student of Excellence Award” to an outstanding freshman, sophomore, junior and senior at Purnell Swett High School. (qualities of students, how to nominate). The Chamber supports local teachers and students.

The Chamber also supports The University of North Carolina at Pembroke’s community outreach by supporting UNCP’s homecoming and Pembroke Day. Representatives from local educational, government, and businesses comprise Chamber leadership.
